Responsibilities:

The University of California, Irvine is seeking qualified candidates for a Clinical Associate Hospitalist position for clinic coverage. Duties will include clinical service primarily at the UCI site in Los Alamitos . The successful candidate must be board eligible/certified in Hospital Medicine, and licensed/eligible in California.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidates must possess an M.D. /D.O. or equivalent degree.
  • Board-certified or eligible in the field of Internal Medicine or Family Practice (with previous inpatient experience)
  • Eligible for California licensure
  • Experienced in providing and/or oversight of care

Benefits eligible base salary compensation based on $328,025 benchmarks for a Clinical Associate within this specialty total compensation is $311,000-$390,000. In addition, candidates have the potential to earn incentives on top of their base salary contingent on performance and experience.

Clinical responsibilities will involve:

  • Coordinate and ensure patient care coverage for Medicine services
  • Conduct face-to-face rounds with the care team
  • Collaborate with intensivists on ICU/CCU cases; hospitalists will not serve as primary admitting providers.
  • Monitor patient stability and triage cases
  • Oversee consultations and collaborate with specialists
  • Participate in family meetings and patient care discussions
  • Ensure timely completion of patient notes within 24 hours
  • Maintain compliance with medical record standards and institutional policies


Primary responsibilities of this position:

  • Maintain the highest standards of safety and quality in patient care
  • Provide appropriate general hospital medicine care and management of patients including but not limited to evaluation, treatment, and follow-up care.
  • Supervise individuals who participate in the care of patients
  • Model professionalism and patient-centered care
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives
  • Complete computer-based training and timesheets on schedule
  • Support development of clinical protocols and care delivery optimization

  • Leadership skills: ability to motivate, inspire, communicate with patients, families, staff, faculty, and peers to maintain a professional, team-based approach in the care of patients.
  • Adhere to departmental policies, procedures, and objectives while in compliance of all UC policies and procedures. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all state and federal privacy laws.

Clinical Associate Physicians shall be subject to the same restrictions applied to external earnings of faculty participating in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan (HSCP). Unless otherwise agreed by the University, external earnings related to the Clinical Associate Physician's University appointment must be turned over to the University, and retention of any portion of such earnings are subject to approval of the Department Chairperson and the School of Medicine’s Dean. (See Health Sciences Compensation Plan, Section IV.A.3. Other Miscellaneous Income That May be Retained by Plan Members.)
